Challenges Facing the Adoption of VR for Language Education: Evaluating Dual-Frame System Design as a Possible Solution

This paper aims to review the challenges wider adoption of VR technologies for language education at university level, focusing on teaching English as a foreign (TEFL). The first portion classifies these challenges, outlined in current literature, into seven main themes: “Lack TEFL-Specific Content,” “Difficulty Integrate Learning and Evaluation,” “Supporting Various Approaches,” “Uncertainty Over Outcomes,” “Costs Development Difficulty,” “VR Sickness Other Physical Issues,” “Space Setup.” In addition this classification, it considers curriculum-related that are underrepresented research, such supporting translanguaging content integrated learning (CLIL). Secondly, novel design method, Dual-Frame System Design, is introduced, which separates VR-based experiences TEFL separate “frames” can be swapped out different needs. Finally, three systems created with dual-frame system evaluated terms their structures, functions, user how well they address challenges. Lessons learned from evaluation may useful future systems.
